Final Exam Blog Section

1. The project that I think I have learned the most from and grown and deveolped from would be the painting on the canvas where we had to take three different pictures and combine them into one and then paint it. It helped me experiment with mixing with the three primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, and showed me that I can make any color I want to just by using those three colors. Also with the help of white or black. With this one art project it has taught me the most cause I learned new techniques for creating more life like objects like water, trees, and clouds. I even learned about tint, shade, monochromatic colors, and analogous colors.

2. The project that I found most relevant towards me would be the photoshop project. My father is a graphic designer and when I was little I would go to his work and watch him while playing in his office. He used photoshop a lot and I was always curious how the program worked but never asked how to use it. I was amazed at all of the artwork he could make with using photoshop and how photoshop can transform something to make something completly new. I finally got the oppertunity to learn about photoshop and use the program a little bit and i found it very confusing at first but it was also very cool to use and experience first hand at all of the things you can do.

3. The project that I think had the least value was the hand project where we had to plaster our hand and turn it into an animal. I prefer drawing and painting rather than sculpture and clay. I didn't like how the project didn't seem to have a lot of depth or purpose to it for me. Also I don't like group projects and in this project we had to have another person plaster our hand. I like doing art on my own because it is my way of expressing myself and my thoughts in my own way and if someone doesn't like my idea or my art then its not my problem because it turned out how I wanted it to be and how I like it. I like with I learn something or have more room for my creative input. For example, the painting on canvas project I got to mix my own colors and experiment with colors and I got to create every aspect of the painting.

What Will Happen Next: Photoshop

Today in Art 1 our class was assigned to make a "what will happen next" picture in Photoshop. We were to look on google for pictures that you can use in photoshop to combine using the program and effects that Mr. Sands taught us yesterday and create a picture that will leave the viewer wondering "What will happen next?" and they can use their imagination to think of the result. It was difficult because you first had to think of an idea but then once you got on the interent and went searching for the picture I realized that it is a lot harder to find the picture that I am looking for.

Photoshop

During class we went to the computer lab and we were taught how to use Photoshop. We combined a rhino and a zebra together. It was very confusing but it was cool to learn all of the things you can do in Photoshop. What made it difficult at times was that my zebra and rhino weren't the same or similar sizes like some peoples. Which resulted in certain parts of the rhino not having the zebra stripes on it. I then had to darken certain parts so it looked like there was a shadow. Then on the top of the rhino I had to add lighter areas so it looked like there was sun shinning on it and to help give it shape and a more realistic look.

Painting

For our painting project we had to take a forground, middleground, and background out of three different pictures and then combine them together into a drawing. Then we were to paint it onto a canvas. I actually enjoyed painting when at first I thought I wasnt going to like it. If i messed up I could just go back over it and it would be covered up so it made the process a little less stressful. It was a challenge when I had to add highlights to the water at the bottom because the color of the water in the picture was a strange color and I had to add highlights and reflections to make it look more like water. I really like how the clouds turned out but I think it looks different compaired to the style and brush strokes of other parts of the painting.

Pastel Murals

Our group made a mural of Abraham Lincoln. We got a picture of Abraham Lincoln then we picked colors for us to use then we pixalized it. Then we had to find an area in the school courtyard that would fit the picture. Once we picked an area we stared labeling what color each brick would be then little by little we colored Lincoln in sections. It only took us two days to color thankfully because there was pastel dust everywhere and the pastels were getting used up pretty fast. Also once we finished coloring the bricks so we didn't use up a lot of pastels we covered most of each brick then we went back over it with a big paintbrush to blend the colors togeher and so they would fill up each brick and flow in the picture better.

Fish Print

For our fish print project it was pretty gross cause we had to use a frozen fish and paint it then put a piece of paper over it. It was kind of challenging because you had to make sure you didn't put too much paint onto the fish or else the scales and all of the details wouldn't show up because they would all mix and smudge together. On the other hand if you put too little paint then the scales would not show up because there was not enough paint to pick up on the details. Though, it was a very creative idea and project which proved that you can make art out of anything and everything.

Clay

At the beginning of this project I had an idea and started making my bowl but then I realized that I didn't like how it was turning out. I then decided to start over and pick a different design for my bowl and I like how this one is turning out a lot more than my previous clay bowl.

Localized Perspective

Once this project was complete it looked really cool but it took awhile and a lot of tape and paper. It was difficult when we would leave one day and then come back to work on it more the next day and either the tape had been taken down or the tape that we put on the floor to know where weare suppose to stand was gone. We also had to look at the picture at the same view every time so when it was complete all of the lines matched so the picture looked like the actual picture so we had to make sure that the same person every time was giving directions to the other group members on where to place the tape on the wall to make the outline. When we finished the outline we then went back over and filled in the outlines with black paper.

Forced Perspective

In art class we had to go around school and take pictures of forced perspective art. It was a challenge because the person that was taking the picture had to direct the people posing and we had to make sure that it was exact or it wouldn't look realistic. Doing forced perspective art it made me think outsde of the box and look at the surrounding area of what is usually my school and change it into being a canvas for potential art.

Pastel Drawing

I had a really hard time making this drawing because I had to use oil pastels, which I have never used before, only chalk pastels. It took me awhile to get the shading right on his face because the picture didn't seem to have a really noticable light spot and dark spot except around his eyes, which were dark. Thankfully, when I was using oil pastels I could go back over and add more light or dark colors and then blend it to make it look even and show more defined facial features. If I was to draw it with pencil then Iwould have to be doing a lot of eracing but with the oil pastels you could just kind of go with whatever mark you make on the paper and it could actually help the piece. Overall I did enjoy working with the oil pastels even though it took a lot of patience.

Stencils

I liked how my stencil of my giraffe turned out but after I spray painted it and took off the stencil I saw that on the left side of the giraffe wasn't as sharp becuase I didn't realize that when I was spray painting the paper started to lift up so the paint started to look faded. Once I finished spray painting I went back and painted the frame black so the giraffe would stand out becuase if I made it any other color it would have distracted the eye away from the giraffe. With this artwork you have to stand back and look at it to see what it is a picture of. Overall I like how my artwork turned out.

Bones

This week our assignment was to pick a cartoon character and draw what we think its skeleton would look like. I chose Tweety Bird. I didn't enjoy this assignment that much because I had a hard time with what type or shape of bones I should draw to make certain parts of its body. Also it takes a lot more detail and also involves making sure the paportions are right or else something wont look right about the picture, which seemed to be a challenge for me. The rib cage was also difficult because I had to make sure that you could see some of the ribs on the other side so it could look more three dimensional.

Turtles

Today, we had a shortened class time so we spent it sketching different objects that were placed on the tables throughout the classroom. At one of the tables we had Mr. Sands turtles which were challenging to draw because they kept moving, the required a lot of detail and proportion, and we were being timed so we only had a certain amout of time alloted at each table. Also what made this assignment challenging was that I didn't know exactly what part of the turtle I should draw first.

Value

In our Art 1 class we spent a few days working on shading, which is one of my favorite things to work on. I like shading because it really makes what you are drawing or painting or whatever media you are using come to life and look more three dimensional. We had to pick pictures that covered all of the lights and darks of the value scale. We then used a stump, a rolled up piece of paper, to blend the darks, mediums, and lights together to show off the shadows and light spots of the picture.

Hand Project

Our first project in our Art 1 class was to make a animal out of your hand. We had another person cover our hand in plaster and smooth out all of the bumps and to make the plaster even. Once it dried we took it off. The following few days we painted our plaster hand to look like the animal we chose. Once I completed painting and added the teeth to my eel, I noticed that I had made the teeth too large and the color was not consistant over my eel. I thought it started to look more like a dinosaur instead of an eel.
